Becoming a GYHA Manager

The Team Manager oversees the operational and communication aspects of the team. As a Team Manager, you will coordinate communication within the team and manage the financial aspects of your individual team. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • dissimenation of practice and game schedules
  • communication about any changes to game or practice schedules
  • score keeping for all home games and away games as requested
  • organizing team volunteers for pentalty box, time clock, locker room attendant, video/livestream, etc.
  • coordination and registration for tournaments for your team
  • scheduling and planning for off-ice team activities
  • directing team based fundraising
  • management of team level funds
  • support the coach with communication with team parents as well as any other needs to make the team run smoothly. This enables the coaches to focus on player development and on-ice instruction to provide players a rewarding hockey experience.

The Team Manager is not required to do it all. But rather is the primary person but can delegate tasks to other parent volunteers throughout the season. There are many seasoned parent volunteers within the organization and many teams that are willing to help with some tasks or are able to provide training if needed. Please do not hesitate to ask for help! Some volunteer positions do require USAH registration, safesport training, and background screening. If you are unsure if a parent would need to meet these requirements, please reach out to the registrar.

ALL team managers are required to be registered with USA Hockey, pass a background screening, and complete SafeSport training (see links below).

If you would like to be a manager for your player's team or have questions regarding manager duties, please reach out to Darci Hata, GYHA scheduler at scheduler@greeleyyouthhockey.org

Below are all the links to the USA Hockey required trainings and registrations. If you have any questions on the links below please contact Bethany Bolling GYHA registrar at registrar@greeleyyouthhockey.org

USA Hockey Registration

Team Managers are required to register with USA Hockey as a Manager/Volunteer. There is no registration fee for team managers. You will be prompted to enter your USA Hockey confirmation number into your GYHA manager Registration and will also need it to complete SafeSport Training and background screening.

GYHA Volunteer Registration

Once you have your USA Hockey confirmation number, please complete the GYHA Volunteer Registration. When prompted to select a participant to register, select yourself OR choose + NEW PARTICIPANT and add your name and information for this volunteer registration.

USA Hockey Background Screening

Background screening through NCSI under the national program will cost $30 for all domestic screens unless you were born or resided outside of the United States. This is a cost that will be encurred by the volunteer and will not be reimbursed by GYHA.

Screening is good for two seasons. NCSI will not allow you to complete a new background screen if your previous screen is still valid.

SafeSport Training

SafeSport Training is required by USAH for all team managers through The U.S. Center for SafeSport which is an independent non-profit organization focused on ending all forms of abuse in sport.  Effective 4/1/2022, the Safe Sport Training and Refresher Trainings are each valid for twelve (12) months from the date of completion and are available 30 days prior to the anniversary (expiration) date. This means that your refresher course may be due during season and not at the beginning of the season. Please be aware of these dates as a lapse between expiration and completion of the new course may result in temporary removal from the team roster.

The SafeSport program consists of a core course followed by three refreshers - only ONE course needed per year. When you sign in to your HockeyHQ portal you will be automatically directed to the appropriate course.
