Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are the energy that drives and supports Greeley Youth Hockey. Volunteer opportunities within our organization can fall into many categories. Some volunteer positions require additional documentation (registration with USAH, background screening, and SafeSport training), other volunteer positions just require the desire to help out.

All parents are encouraged but not required to obtain a free USAH membership and complete the free SafeSport training. Background screenings (for a fee) are only required for the positions as indicated below.

Here are some examples of the most common volunteer needs:

Team Managers – the team manager helps coordinate communication and team schedules as well as team level funds. This position requires the additional documentation. See becoming a manager under resources for more information

Board of Directorsthese positions all require the additional documentation as well as either being elected or appointed to the position. Positions include President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Scheduler, Registrar, and Team Representatives.

Team Representative to the BOD – Each team will elect or appoint a representative to be the team liaison to the Board of Directors. This representative will be responsible for attending all BOD meeting and sharing information with their team members as well as will be the point of contact for any team level needs or concerns that need to be addressed by the BOD.

Coach – Each team will have at least one (1) head coach and up to two (2) assistant coaches. Additional coaching staff may be considered depending on individual team needs. Coaches are required to meet the volunteer documentation requirements as well as completion of specific coaching modules and classes as required by USAH. If you are interested in coaching, please contact our coaching advisor at coachingdirector@greeleyyouthhockey.org

Fundraising -  many opportunities to participate and assist with fundraising are available at both the organization and team level. Please contact your team manager or a member of the BOD if you are interested. These opportunities may not require additional documentation.

Game Day HelpMost of these positions do not require the additional documentation. Please check with your team manager if you are interested in fulfilling any of these roles for your team.

·      Score keeping – some managers fill the scorekeeper role for their team, other managers delegate to willing parent volunteers.

·      Timeclock/Scoreboard – Assist the scorekeeper on home game days by running the timeclock/scoreboard. Training will be provided on use of the timeclock.

·      Penalty Box Attendant -  an adult (age 18+) must be in the penalty box for supervision for all games (home and away). Will your player join you there for a brief rest?

·      Videographer – to stream all games. Most teams livestream their games so that family and friends unable to be in person are able to watch the games. Commentating is appreciated but not required!!!!

·      Locker room attendantTHIS POSITION DOES REQUIRE SUBMISSION OF THE ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION. This position would be to supervise locker rooms when coaches are not present and to help with gear and skate tying for the youngest players. Not all teams utilize or need locker room attendants. Please check with your team manager to see if this is a need for your team.

If you have any questions about the above Volunteer Opportunities, please reach out to your team manager or to a Boad of Directors member. If the position you are interested in volunteering for requires additional registration and information, please continue to the links provided below.

If you have any questions about the following information or problems with the links, please contact registrar@greeleyyouthhockey.org

USA Hockey Registration

All adult volunteers that are in direct contact with players or player information are required to register with USA Hockey as a Volunteer. There is no registration fee for adult volunteers. You will be prompted to enter your USA Hockey confirmation number into your GYHA volunteer Registration and will also need it to complete SafeSport Training and background screening.

GYHA Volunteer Registration

Once you have your USA Hockey confirmation number, please complete the GYHA Volunteer Registration. When prompted to select a participant to register, select yourself OR choose + NEW PARTICIPANT and add your name and information for this volunteer registration.

USA Hockey Background Screening

Background screening through NCSI under the national program will cost $30 for all domestic screens unless you were born or resided outside of the United States. This is a cost that will be encurred by the volunteer and will not be reimbursed by GYHA.

Screening is good for two seasons. NCSI will not allow you to complete a new background screen if your previous screen is still valid.

SafeSport Training

SafeSport Training is required by USAH for all adult volunteers through The U.S. Center for SafeSport which is an independent non-profit organization focused on ending all forms of abuse in sport. Effective 4/1/2022, the Safe Sport Training and Refresher Trainings are each valid for twelve (12) months from the date of completion and are available 30 days prior to the anniversary (expiration) date. This means that your refresher course may be due during season and not at the beginning of the season. Please be aware of these dates as a lapse between expiration and completion of the new course may result in temporary removal from the team roster.

The SafeSport program consists of a core course followed by three refreshers - only ONE course needed per year. When you sign in to your HockeyHQ portal you will be automatically directed to the appropriate course.
